What can I expect in my session ?
Your session will start with time to hear your story and discuss the goals of your session. From what we hear, we will go through assessments and breathing analysis that will act as our pre-tests during our session. Our sessions will be like a dance - we will assess, release, then integrate with walking or post-tests. This allows us to make sure we follow the right path and have the best results. Every session ends by bringing the nervous system down and grounding the body. We will release layer-by-layer, making sure we have long lasting results.
What will I wear?
Our Structural Integration work is done with underwear or non-restrictive tops and shorts. During analysis we want to be able to see as the skin but want you to feel as comfortable as possible. You will be doing slight movements and walking while we work, so wear clothes that will cover you appropriately. Massage Therapy will be more traditional, using a top sheet and allowing the client to undress to level of their comfort.
What kind of work is this?
Great question. The modalities used are Structural Integration, Neurokinetic Therapy, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, Myofacial Release, and many sports massage techniques. Now let’s break those down for you.
Structural Integration, or Rolfing, is a holistic system of manual therapy and movement re-education that uses deep hands-on fascial manipulation to organize our structure, improve our function, and re-establish the body's relationship to its vertical axis. What makes this different from other massage is that I will place my hands in places of tension and ask for movement. This helps the release and organizes the fascia, allowing the body to do its own healing.
NKT, or Neurokinetic Therapy, is a manual muscle testing protocol that helps speak directly to the brain by using motor control theory. This releases what needs to be released to reverse built-up compensation patterns and activate inhibited muscles.
DNS, or Dynamic Neurokinetic Therapy, is a rehabilitation approach which stimulates movement control centers in the brain to activate how our bodies were meant to move by restoring and stabilizing locomotor function. More simply put, we developed a sophisticated way of moving, breathing, and stabilizing when we were babies. Often the key to unlocking restrictions in adult structures is reestablishing what we learned from infancy.
The massage modalities range from trigger point, deep tissue, Thai, myofascial, passive joint work, scar work, pre and post natal and many others.
